Muscle chow
Men's Health cover model, Gregg Avedon, shares the secret recipe for his post-workout protein fix: the Power Burger Gregg Avedon I'm often asked if I have only protein shakes after my workouts. Yeah, right. I always take in a hearty serving of post-workout protein and carbohydrates to speed along the muscle-building process, but, like every other health-conscious guy, I get tired of shakes. So, a couple of times a month, I chow down on a burger after my workout. But not the kind you pick up at your local grease joint. • My Power Burger is loaded with high-quality animal protein, iron, magnesium, B vitamins, vitamin E and other antioxidants. The bread and apple add carbohydrates to help replenish glycogen stores and drive protein to your muscles. Power Burger
What you need • 0.5 kg extra-lean mince • 1 Tbsp sunflower seeds • 1 Tbsp finely chopped onion • 1 Tbsp finely chopped red pepper • tsp fresh ground black pepper • Toasted wheatgerm • 1 roll or 2 slices of bread • 1 apple, sliced (as side dish) • Optional condiments: lettuce, thinly sliced tomato, honey mustard
What to do Put the first 5 ingredients in a large mixing bowl and knead with your hands until they're well mixed. 1. Make 4 thin patties, then roll them in the wheatgerm until they're covered. 2. Next, grill or pan-fry the burgers to your liking. Place one on the roll or bread and top with condiments of your choice. 3. Eat this and wrap the other three individually in plastic wrap, then store them in the freezer.
Before gym, take one out and throw it in the fridge. By the time you get home, it'll be thawed and ready to cook.
