Hi all!
I'm trying to find a good protein shake recipe that is easy to make and requires only a few ingredients. Also if you could recommend a powder for me too that would be great!
Thanks

Sup FireBird,

Welcome to the forum.. There is alot of places on the web, where you can order powder (Read: Whey Protein). I order mine from www.getbig.dk, but that's a Danish company and quite expensive if you live abroad (which you probably do, Denmark is like 1/6 of the population in New York City)

My protein shake contains only water and powder, nothing else. Every now and then I add some berries to make it kinda milkshake-like, but that's up to you how you do it. Smile

I hope it helps, man..

Keep struggling and results will show in no time.. Wink

You must be careful with "protein bars" most of the time, if you look on the ingredients list you will find that they are no more than sweets packaged with fancy wrapping. But you do get the ones that are beneficial to you. Just gotta read those ingredients.

^^^ Very true bruva Steve, very true!

I like Steve's recipe. As for what kind of powder: Twinlabs or Maximize. Don't go for Perfect or Nature's Best: crappy quality if you ask me.

Ow yeah: strawberry-banana flavour rocks!

I've been using Natures Best Iso Pure Zero Carb - "Pineapple Orange Banana" mixed with water. I based my decision on various requirements: lactose free, low fat, low cholesterol, and low (no) carbs. It also includes vitamins and minerals.

KinKyJ, why do you believe Natures Best is "crappy quality"?

The flavor is actually pretty good as long as you half the serving. Full serving of any powder is too thick for me. I'm not a 'shake' person -- 'whey' too filling. Laughing

I don't like Vanilla or Chocolate for any of the protein powders. These make me want to gag. pale

Because it contains more "secondary" material which they put in to up the weight per container than say Maximize. You'll see that when you mix it: stickier than other brands.

After my workout I couldn't care less lol, I will shoot any flavour whey protein, they all get the job done! I must say that vanilla is the easiest to take in after an intense workout when you don't really feel like eating or drinking anythang.

Ye well, I don't like gobbling down chunks of goo, so I'm sticking with Maximize and/or Twinlab Wink

I was hoping you had a more quantitative reason. It is difficult to compare protein powders when each manufacture tries to stands out through marketing. That's why I always hit the ingredient list.

The documentation on Maximize's 100% Whey Protein is lacking. It looks like they have 83.3% protein by weight on average. It doesn't state what the other 16.7% is. They don't appear to sell in the US.

Doing the analysis on my container, I come up with ~80% protein by weight. The ingredients list 100% ion-exchange Whey first, second is Vitamin/Mineral/Amino Acid blend, and everything after that is various minerals & vitamins followed by malic acid/soy lecithin/ 'natural and artificial flavors'/sucralose. Here in the US ingredients are ordered by amount in the product, e.g. peanut butter you'd expect peanuts to be first else maybe you shouldn't buy that jar. Smile Given the ingredient order the 'secondary' material is vitamins+minerals.

I've not had any brand of protein powder I would consider sticky. Perhaps chewy when the ratio of water to powder is low.

Muscle Milk is the bomb, I love the taste of that stuff Smile not sure about UK products, but usually when you get the cheaper makes the quality is somewhat compromised. When it comes to protein I'd rather get quality than quantity. Also only buy the brands that are quality approved, which means if it says 20g protein per scoop, you can count on every scoop having 20g protein

Hope that helps bro

You've got to try this one, guys.. This is a great replacement for a meal as well.. Smile

1/2 cup of raisins
1/4 cup of almonds
1 big banana
30 grams of whey protein (it can be flavoured, that's alright)
1 cup of milk
1/5 cup of water

Mix everything in a blender and make sure that the raisins and almonds are chopped up real nice.. Very Happy

This smoothie/protein drink is excellent!.. It'll kill even the smallest crave for sugar and sweets you might have and at the same time finish off any hunger you might have..

Enjoy! Smile
