PostSubject: Not feeling up to it?!?   Fri Feb 01, 2008 11:06 am

If you get to the point and you dont feel up to working out, whether it be through sickness or lazyness (de-motivated comes under lazyness im afraid) then you can use this system to determine what you need to do:

On a scale of 0-10, how bad do you feel? If it's a 10, you should be posting on this forum from the hospital.

If it's 0-3, you're fine.
If it's 4-5, go in, warm-up, and then see how you feel.
If it's 6, just go in and do something, even if it's just a warm-up.
If it's 7, push things back a day.
If it's 8-9, take a few days to rest.
If it's 10, you shouldn't feel good enough to check this forum!

Not everyone thinks in the same way i do (but then i have been a competitive athlete for 9 year) but if you try using the excuse that you are too sore to workout or feeling ill then you really need to get your head on straight. Now unless you are vomitting non stop (or something of the like) you have a valid excuse to lay in bed and miss a workout.

I have gone to sessions sore, stiff, and sick and still suvived a grueling 2 hours.

Anyway the point of this post is simple (thats right i am going somewhere with this) no matter how bad you feel doing something is better than doing nothing. Even if you start the workout and dont finish you will feel a lot better than not even attempting it - and as an after thought, every little helps along the road we are taking.

Hope everyone actually understands what i am trying to say Question

Sean

Yeah...I understand you perfectly Sean!! cheers

Even more...because even if you're sick...exercise...the sweating and stuff...will help you get better..just make sure you don't get cold..! Cool

That way, the only viable excuse is really if you're in bed sick...or...hmm....dead...and i this last case...don't worry..mother nature will make you "bone-fit" albino geek

Great post there Sean.

Another thing that works for me is visiting these guys blog's and progress.
Doing that really 'get me to work!' those days when i feel i could skip it.

Even tho, the first thing you need to do is ask yourself "How bad do i want to change?" To know that you have the power NOW to change your life to a healthier and better looking 'you' well... me, for one, think is enough reason to get off my *ss and work for it.

There's nothing better than setting a goal and working your way to it step by step, day by day.
Even if today you only do 0.1% of it... your A LOT closer than yesterday.

I under stand what you’re saying Sean,
Getting started is always the worst bit for me, but as Manny rightly said “visiting people’s blogs is a great source of motivation”. I also have a list of all the names of people in the competition on the wall in big letters were I work out, with a big pair of eyes at the bottom.

As Manny also said “0.1% is better than nothing”. And if you can look at your self in the mirror when you’ve finished, and HONESTLY say to your self I did my best, then you can sleep with a clear conscience.

From experiance i know that a lot of it is all mental. In most cases the mind is weak and will give up before the body has hit its limit. I have seen many athletes put themselves down before they have even started a swim set; "oh no its too hard i wont be able to finish it/wont be able to go that fast!" Straight away they have set themselves up to fail. Me on the other hand will say "Oh yeah, that sounds like a challenge - bring it on!!"

Dont forget that what the mind thinks the body will do. If you body says i cant lift that/finish the set then your body wont - even though it is more that capable. The same goes for if you are sick.

If you find yourself in this situation then sit down and take 5 minutes to yourself. Visulise what you need to do, visulaise everything about it, the smell, the lights, who is there, the layout of the room, the you doing it and doing it perfectly. Go over this a few times in your head. Then open your eyes and do it.

The mind is the most powerful tool in the body, we just need to learn how to use it.

I agree, visualizing is awesome and it really works. If you just don't have the motivation to train just take 5mins to visualize how great you will feel once you have done the workout. Try it out and see how it works for you.

What you visualize, you materialize

I do have a lot of visulisation stuff filed somewhere.......where? I dont have even the slightest idea. I will hunt around for it and post it when it's found. It is some great information, which i have used for my swimming - and damn it does help a hell of a lot.

It's all in the mind, weakness that is. When I feel like shit (say after a night out drinking with my mates or partying in a club), I automatically put on my gloves for a few rounds on the heavy bag or go for a good run. Sitting in your couch and trying to chill off the bad feeling only makes you more lazy. Activating the body will make you feel better afterwards.

So to all you who are not feeling up to it: grow a pair of balls and burn the fat off your souls!
